A home study is a report conducted by a licensed social worker which evaluates a family’s readiness to parent a child. It highlights information such as family relationships and family values. World Links will assist families throughout the home study process. Families residing outside of Pennsylvania will have a home study completed by an agency licensed in their state.
How would I got about to start a home study with World Links?
If interested in having World Links complete your home study, simply give us a call and a home study packet will be sent out to you. The packet will include a Home Study Contract, Inform Consent form, Resource Guide, USCIS forms and checklist for required documents.
What sort of documents will I have to gather for the home study?
A person will have to gather documents such as marriage certificates, birth certificates, divorcee decree, PA Criminal Back ground Checks, PA Child Abuse Clearance, employment letter, bank letter, insurance documentation, copy of passports to name just a few.
How fast could we start our home study and how many visits?
Once your home study documents are reviewed by a World Links Social Worker, you will receive a phone call within 1 week from when World Links receives the completed documents in the office. The timing of the visits is coordinated between the person conducting the home study and the prospective adoptive parents. Usually, a home study can be completed within 1-2 months from the initial inquiry.
What else is entailed as part of the home study?
Part of the services offered with the home study, is pre-adoptive education/preparation. An adoptive parent will complete a minimum of 10 hours of education. The completion of the hours can be in the format of group classes, individual sessions, online classes, books, support groups, etc. As part of the home study process, World Links utilizes an assessment titled, Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory-2.
How much does a home study cost and what does it include?
At the current time the cost for a home study includes the home study report, visits, education and 4 post adoption reports. The total cost is $2500. If a country requires more than 4 reports, then there is an additional $250 per report. The cost of a home study update is $250. If a prospective adoptive parent lives more then 100 miles away, there might be additional cost for mileage. If World Links will also be your placement agency, then we require a refundable Post Adoption security deposit.
