Upcoming changes in Ukrainian international adoption law

Ukraine would be introducing a bill that would implement changes to current Ukrainian adoption legislation. On Tuesday, March 20, 2007, the Parliament of Ukraine passed bill #2562 On Legislative Amendments to Ukraine´s Laws (regarding adoptions). The bill will come into effect after President Yuschenko´s approval and its publication in the official newspaper of Ukraine's Parliament. This bill introduces the following major changes to current Ukrainian legislation:

  • The minimum age of prospective adoptive parent must be at least 21 years old;
  • The maximum age difference between adoptive parents and adopted children cannot exceed 45 years. The age requirements apply to both parents in the family (if at least one of the adoptive parents does not comply with these requirements, the family cannot be approved.
  • Unmarried foreign citizens cannot adopt Ukrainian children.

According to Ukrainian officials, this law will not become fully effective until May or June of this year.

Kyrgyzstan Adoption Program

Our first family to adopt from Kyrgyzstan returned home with their daughter in March. The process went very smoothly and exceeded our expectations for a new program. We would like to thank Sharon and Carl for choosing this program, and wish them and their children all the best. Check back with us later for a more detailed description of their adoption journey.

"This was everything we thought it would be" - Sharon

World Links is now accepting applications from single prospective mothers for our Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan adoption programs.

These international adoption programs are ideal for single prospective mothers interested in adopting infants, toddlers, and older children and currently represent a vialbe alternative for struggling adoptions from China. Children from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan either resemble their asian heritage or a mix of Asian and European ethnicity.

Please contact our office to get more information about this opportunity.

Ukraine Program Now Open!

After almost a year of reorganization, the new State Department for Adoptions and the Protection of Children in Kiev, Ukraine is accepting new families. This program runs very smoothly and is ideal for families interested in adopting infants, toddlers, older children, and sibling groups.

Under a new option, World Links has submitted documents to the new State Department to be registered as an agency working with families adopting from Ukraine.
