ARMENIAN ADOPTION PROGRAM
Armenian International Adoption Process
After you submit an application, World Links will promptly begin the international adoption process. You’ll be assigned an individual consultant to help you gather the documents needed for the adoption dossier. Once your dossier is compiled and translated, it will be sent to the Armenian Embassy in Washington, D.C. for translation and legalization purposes. Your dossier will then be forwarded to Armenia for approval at the Adoption Committee of Armenia.
All U.S. documents submitted to the Armenian government must be authenticated. U.S. civil records, such as birth, death and marriage certificates, must bear the seal of the issuing office and an apostille must be affixed by the state’s Secretary of State. (An apostille is a special seal certifying that a document is a true copy of an original.)
The most time-consuming part of the adoption is gathering the appropriate documents and getting approval from the Armenian authorities. It will take approximately 1-2 months for the Armenian government to review your dossier and provide approval for adoption. Once a child is identified, it usually takes 3-4 months to complete the adoption.
As soon as a referral becomes available, you will receive an invitation to travel to Armenia. The referral contains the profile of a prospect best matching the description of the child your family would like to adopt. It includes the name of the child and a picture and relevant medical and social information. Prospective adoptive parents may travel twice to Armenia. If you choose to accept the referral and continue to the next step, we will schedule your trip and assist with all travel arrangements. Although both parents (if applicable) may make the first trip to meet the child, only one parent is needed for the second trip to bring the child home. The first trip lasts 3-5 business days. The second trip, which usually occurs 3-4 months after the first, can take 2 weeks for finalizing paperwork and processing your child’s immigrant visa.
To obtain an immigrant visa for your newly adopted child, you must travel to the American embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Our English-speaking adoption coordinator will always be available to assist you while you are in Armenia.
