For years, Armenia remained closed to international adoptions. Today, World Links International Adoption Agency is proud to be one of the few agencies that can assist families with the adoption process from this scenic and historic nation. Our Armenian International Adoption Program is ideal for a family of Armenian descent interested in adopting infants, toddlers, sibling groups, or older children.
The Armenian orphanage and hospitals provide the children with good care and closely monitor their development process.
We’re With You Every Step of the Way
Working closely with the Armenian Embassy, our international adoption coordinators in Armenia are ready to expertly guide you through this country’s adoption procedures, making sure everything proceeds as smoothly as possible. After you return home from Armenia with your child, you can take advantage of World Links’ post adoption counseling, mentoring and social networks services. Our numerous events and get-togethers with other adoptive families provide continued support to families after the international adoption process is successfully completed.
Who Can Adopt?
- Married couples aged 25 or older are eligible.
- Single women can adopt. (Eligibility is reviewed on case-by-case basis)
- Prospective parents may be childless or already have biological/adoptive children.
- Families of Armenian descent are preferred.
This is not a requirement, but is often
helpful in gaining permission from the Armenian government to adopt. Potential
parents will be asked for a promise to maintain their child’s cultural heritage and to
provide a letter of reference from their church leader.
Children Availability
- Children can be from 2–12 years old.
- Children with special needs are available.
- Sibling groups can be adopted.
Armenian International Adoption Process
The moment your application is received you will be assigned a personal consultant to help guide you through the process. Your consultant will assist you in putting together your adoption dossier and prepare it for the translation and authentication process with the Armenian Embassy of Washington, D.C. Once this step is complete, your dossier will then be forwarded to the Adoption Committee of Armenia for final approval.
Once your documents are with the Committee, it will take approximately two months for the Armenian government to review your dossier and provide approval for adoption.
As soon as a referral becomes available, you will receive an invitation to travel to Armenia. The referral contains the profile of a prospect best matching the description of the child your family would like to adopt. It includes the name of the child, pictures and relevant medical and social information. Once a child is identified, the child's documents and your dossier begin the final approval process. It usually takes four to six months from this point to finalize the adoption at the Armenian Civil Court. Prospective adoptive parents may travel twice to Armenia. If you choose to accept the referral and continue to the next step, we will schedule your trip and assist with all travel arrangements. Although one parent may make the first trip to meet the child, both parents are needed for the second trip to attend the court hearing and to bring the child home. The first trip lasts 3-5 business days. The second trip, which usually occurs 3-4 months after the first, can take 2.5-3 weeks for finalizing paperwork and processing your child’s immigrant visa. There is a 15 day wait period after the court date. An immigrant visa for your newly adopted child will be processed at the American embassy in Yerevan, capital of Armenia.
