I was an only child for almost 9 years before my parents adopted my brother, Daniel, from Korea. I always thought that was one of the happiest days of my life and I knew, even then, that I wanted to adopt my children when I was an adult. Before we got married, my husband and I talked about how we both agreed that adoption was the way we wanted to grow our family. A few years later, World Links helped us fulfill that dream when we went to Russia to find our very special little daughter Nadia.
It was a hard trip and a long trip and at times things did go rather unexpectedly. But the overall memories and feelings we have about our trip are so positive. The people who worked for World Links in Russia were knowledgeable, competent professionals who did a wonderful job. We are still in touch with some of them today because they not only helped us, but became our friends.
Through our month in Perm, Russia, we had a wonderful translator who took us ice skating, skiing, and to the ice caves of Kungur. We did and saw things we never dreamed of, but best of all, twice a day, we went to the Baby Home to visit Nadia. At 19 months old, she was very wary of us at first, but our daily times with her helped us all to become happy together.
And now, over 2 years later, it seems that we couldn't possibly have existed without Nadia in our lives. She is a happy, smart, beautiful little girl who loves to talk and sing and dance. This March she will be 4 years old. So often my husband and I will watch her and ask each other, “How could we have been so lucky?”
